SOCAL Water Polo Foundation
took the championship defeating SET by a score of 14 to 13 Friday Night at El
Toro High School. In front of a lively
crowd the two teams battled back and forth all night. SET struck first with a power play goal by Racc Julson though Socal answered right back with a snipe by Griffin Lerman. It was
a back and forth affair as the teams
ended the first frame 2-2 and half at 5-5.
Socal opened the third quarter with a strong 3-0 run in under 2
minutes. SET responded in kind with a
3-0 run in just 3 minutes. Socal was
able to end the frame on top with another Lerman snipe which proved to be the difference. Socal opened the fourth to lead by 2 which proved to provide the cushion n eeded. SOCAL was led in scoring by Dreason Barry with a six pack and Griffin Lerman notching in 5. SET was led by a strong fourth quarter
including goals by Joseph Colton who had 4 for the night and
Logan McConnell with a hat trick. Down by 2, Logan Chappel was able to find the net for SET but with
only 3 seconds left on the clock; it was too little too late.
SOCAL took the title in 2011 and is the first team in WPCL history
to go back to back. The WPCL will be back in action starting in January 2013
with an expanded roster and more exciting play.
